Academia Mato-grossense de Letras hosts cultural event at Casa Barão

The Academia Mato-grossense de Letras (AML) will host the October edition of the ‘Casa Aberta’ project on Thursday, October 8, at the Casa Barão de Melgaço in Cuiabá. Under the theme ‘Casa Barão: Coirmãos’, the free event celebrates the historical coexistence of the AML and the Instituto Histórico e Geográfico de Mato Grosso (IHG-MT), both of which share the historic colonial building.

The Casa Barão de Melgaço is a state and nationally protected heritage site that formerly served as the residence of Augusto João Manoel Leverger, a prominent 19th-century military figure, historian, and geographer.

Organized in partnership with the Mato Grosso State Secretariat of Culture, Sport, and Leisure (Secel), the monthly event features a diverse program including bibliographic exhibitions, photography workshops, and an academic discussion involving the presidents of both institutions. The project aims to integrate literature with urban arts, such as rap, slam poetry, and graffiti, while highlighting diverse social groups.
