Academic and cultural awards announced in Greece and Cyprus

The Epitropi Ellinismou has announced the 2026 Evagoras Pallikarides Awards. The competition offers two prizes of €300 each: one for residents of Greece and Cyprus, and another for residents living abroad. The awards are named in memory of the Cypriot EOKA fighter and poet Evagoras Pallikarides. Eligible applicants include students or scholars, whether Greek or of Greek descent, who submit an essay or poem in Greek on the theme: ‘Evagoras Pallikarides: The meaning of his sacrifice today’. The submission deadline is October 28, 2026, with winners to be announced by December 18, 2026.

Separately, the Panayiotis and Elli Malli ‘Panagia tis Lysis’ Foundation has awarded the Elli and Panayiotis Malli Award to Elisavet Pitta, a displaced graduate of the University of Cyprus Faculty of Law. The €2,000 prize, awarded annually for 26 years, recognizes academic excellence and perseverance among displaced graduates of the University of Cyprus. The ceremony was attended by the President of the Foundation, Angelas Laperta, and the Mayor of Lysi, Andreas Kaouri.
