Academic conferences held in Oradea and Iași address societal challenges

Two significant academic events took place in Romania on October 23, focusing on contemporary societal and educational issues.

In Oradea, the International Symposium under the aegis of the Transylvanian School, themed ‘The Common Good – Authority, Pluralism, and Horizon of Meaning,’ was hosted by the Greek Catholic Diocese. The event brought together theologians, researchers, and academics to discuss identity crises and the promotion of the common good in a diverse world. The symposium was initiated by the Oradea Department of the Faculty of Greek Catholic Theology at Babeș-Bolyai University.

In Iași, the ‘Alexandru Ioan Cuza’ University marked its 166th anniversary with a conference titled ‘The University and Some Challenges of the Present.’ Professor Gheorghe Popa addressed the evolving role of the Romanian education system amidst digitalization and the rise of artificial intelligence. Popa highlighted how AI modifies human relationships and the distribution of power, while also noting broader societal issues such as political manipulation and declining social trust.
