Academic festivals in Coimbra and Guimarães begin 2026 preparations

Academic traditions are advancing in Portugal as organizers prepare for major student celebrations in 2026. In Coimbra, the Organizing Committee for the Festa das Latas e Imposição de Insígnias 2026 officially presented its poster and program at the Associação Académica de Coimbra (AAC) gardens. The event, which included speeches from AAC Director-General José Machado and coordinators Matilde Vaz and Elsa Neves, focused on the event's role in welcoming new students and maintaining cultural traditions while ensuring safety.

In Guimarães, preparations for the Festas Nicolinas 2026 have also begun. The election for the 2026 Festas Commission was scheduled for September 25 at the Chafariz do Largo do Toural. The commission, consisting of ten roles including President, Treasurer, and Chief of Bombos, is responsible for organizing the centennial academic festivities that draw thousands of students and visitors to the city.
