Academic institutions host linguistic and translation seminars

Academic institutions in Spain and Mexico are hosting events focused on linguistics, translation, and cultural diversity.

In Vigo, Spain, the Faculty of Philology and Translation is organizing the third edition of the Week of Languages, Literatures, and Translation. The initiative, supported by Mayor Abel Caballero, celebrates international dates such as the International Day of Sign Languages, European Day of Languages, and International Translation Day. Activities include introductory courses in Basque and Lithuanian, as well as a seminar titled ‘Letras en Feminino’ which examines gender perspectives in literature and translation.

In Tijuana, Mexico, the Faculty of Languages at UABC has launched a Geopolitics and Translation Seminar. Organized by Dr. Leticia Valdez Gutiérrez and Dr. Emilio Venustiano Carranza Gallardo, the eight-session program aims to connect translation practices with social and geopolitical realities. The seminar emphasizes the importance of context and the translator's role in navigating narratives involving global issues, such as forced displacement and economic inequality.
