Academic institutions receive recognition for technological and social innovation

The Universidad Politécnica del Bicentenario (UPB) has been recognized for obtaining two patents from the Mexican Institute of Industrial Property (IMPI). The awards were presented during the InnovaFest event by Marcelo Ebrard, the federal Secretary of Economy, and Mauricio Kuri González, the Governor of Querétaro. The patents focus on sustainable innovation: a solar-powered food dehydration system and a solar tracking system with self-cleaning capabilities for photovoltaic modules.

In Colombia, the Universidad de los Andes recognized two engineering projects during the third edition of the Dejar Huella 2026 initiative. The recognized projects include ‘No estás solx’, led by Marcela Hernández Hoyos, and ‘Juruí’, an interdisciplinary project led by Alicia Porras and a team of researchers from the Faculty of Engineering and the Escuela Colombiana de Ingeniería Julio Garavito. These awards highlight collaborative work and social impact within the academic community.
