Academic leadership changes and university anniversaries in Uruguay and Mexico

Carlos Batthyány has assumed the role of rector at the Technological University (UTEC) in Uruguay. Formerly the executive director of the Institut Pasteur in Montevideo, Batthyány succeeds Valeria Larnaudie, who resigned for health reasons. During his inauguration in Minas, Batthyány emphasized the need to strengthen the national public education system and combat student dropout rates to improve life trajectories for young people.

In Mexico, the Chamber of Deputies commemorated the 475th anniversary of the University of Mexico by inscribing the milestone on its Wall of Honor. UNAM Rector Leonardo Lomelí Vanegas noted that the anniversary reflects a commitment to continuing the legacy of teaching and research established over nearly five centuries. The ceremony served as both a recognition of the institution's historical contributions and a reflection on its future role in serving the nation.
