Academic leadership changes at University of Banja Luka and Rectors' Council

The University of Banja Luka Senate has appointed Ranko Škrbić as the acting rector. Škrbić, the current dean of the Faculty of Medicine, is a former Minister of Health in the Government of Republika Srpska and a member of the SNSD Main Board. His appointment has drawn criticism from opposition politicians and members of the public, who allege that the university's leadership has become increasingly influenced by political affiliations over the last three decades.

In Croatia, the Rectors' Council has unanimously elected Nebojša Stojčić, rector of the University of Dubrovnik, as the new president for the 2026/2027 academic year. Stojčić, who holds a doctorate from Staffordshire University, emphasized the need for academic communities to become more agile and less burdened by bureaucratic processes to remain competitive in a rapidly changing technological and scientific landscape.
