Academisch Ziekenhuis Paramaribo welcomes first triplets in ten years
The Academisch Ziekenhuis Paramaribo (AZP) has welcomed its first set of triplets in ten years. Ivanka Koedemoesoe gave birth via cesarean section on August 21 to two girls, Ishaylee and Imara, and a boy, Isay-el. The birth marks a milestone for the hospital as the first triplets delivered in its new maternity ward.
Both the mother and the infants are reported to be doing well. While two of the babies are with their mother, one remains in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) for monitoring. The arrival of the triplets brings the family's total to seven children.
Suriname's Minister of Health, Welfare, and Labor, André Misiekaba, visited the family to offer congratulations and a gift. He noted that while the birth is a special occasion, it presents challenges for the family, stating that the Ministry of Social Affairs and Housing will also visit to discuss available support.
