Academy of Fine Arts reopens renovated Slava Raškaj building in Zagreb
The Academy of Fine Arts (ALU) at the University of Zagreb has officially reopened the Slava Raškaj building located at Ilica 83. The renovation, which follows damage sustained during the March 2020 Zagreb earthquake, involved an investment of approximately 15.14 million euros.
The project covered roughly 5,000 square meters of space, with the Academy utilizing 3,600 square meters for teaching and studio work, including facilities for the Department of Animated Film and the Department of New Media. The restoration included structural repairs to the facade, staircase, intermediate structures, and roof, alongside energy and functional modernizations.
Funding for the project was provided through the European Union Solidarity Fund, the National Recovery and Resilience Plan, and national co-financing. This reopening is part of a larger renovation effort for three Academy buildings, with total costs for all three sites exceeding 43 million euros.
