Academy of Justice protest continues after MP leaves building

A political dispute continues at the Academy of Justice (AWS) following the Ministry of Justice's decision to uphold the removal of Michał Sopiński as rector-commander. The ministry has designated Professor Sławomir Cudak as the acting rector, a move contested by Sopiński and members of the Law and Justice (PiS) party.

PiS MP Maria Kurowska had been occupying the academy building to protest the leadership change, announcing a hunger strike on Wednesday. However, she abruptly left the premises after reporting that the electricity had been cut off in the building. Kurowska stated that the loss of power prevented her from charging her phone and maintaining communication with the world, though she indicated she intended to continue her hunger strike in another location.

Political analysts suggest the protest serves as a strategic tool for PiS to frame government actions as attempts to seize institutional control while mobilizing their voter base.
