Academy of Sciences of Albania marks 54 years since founding

The Academy of Sciences of Albania was established on October 10, 1972, through Decree No. 4993 of the Presidium of the People's Assembly. The institution was created to coordinate and unify scientific research across various disciplines, including social sciences, albanology, natural sciences, and technical sciences.

The Academy's inaugural composition included 17 regular members and five corresponding members. Aleks Buda was elected as the first president, with the first Assembly meeting held on January 25, 1973. Key founding contributors included prominent scholars such as Eqrem Çabej, Mahir Domi, Petrit Radovicka, Kolë Popa, and Androkli Kostallari.

Over the past five decades, the Academy has served as a central hub for studies in linguistics, history, archaeology, ethnology, and literature. It has played a critical role in documenting Albanian language, history, and cultural heritage through various publications and research projects. Today, the institution continues to represent the Albanian scientific community with a focus on strengthening research and international academic cooperation.
