Académica defeats União de Leiria 2-0 in Liga 2 derby

Académica defeated União de Leiria 2-0 in a seventh-round Liga 2 match held at the Magalhães Pessoa Stadium. The regional derby, attended by over 14,000 spectators, was decided by one goal in each half.

Leandro Silva opened the scoring in the 36th minute via a penalty following a handball by Nabil Ondó. Académica extended their lead early in the second half when Zohi scored in the 49th minute, assisted by Coundoui.

Despite late offensive efforts from União de Leiria, including a disallowed goal by Tharlley due to offside, Académica goalkeeper Victor Braga prevented further scoring. The victory ends a three-match losing streak for the Coimbra-based side and breaks União de Leiria’s five-match unbeaten run, allowing Académica to overtake them in the standings.
