Acapulco Mayor denies 282 million peso embezzlement allegations

Abelina López, the acting mayor of Acapulco, has denied allegations of a 282 million peso embezzlement following observations made by the Superior Auditor of the Federation (ASF). López clarified that audit observations do not constitute proven embezzlement and noted that some issues have already been resolved through institutional procedures.

López requested that the context of her administration be considered, specifically citing the financial demands imposed by hurricanes ‘Otis’ and ‘John’. She emphasized that the municipality managed these crises without new credit lines and while reducing public debt. She stated that her administration would respond to inquiries with documentation and transparency rather than speculation.
