Acapulco mayor Leticia Lozano inaugurated; city gears up for summer security operation

Leticia Lozano Toma was sworn in on July 3, 2026 as the interim municipal president of Acapulco. In her inaugural address she highlighted the municipality’s recent financial recovery, low debt levels, high transparency scores and a 51% drop in crime, attributing progress to coordinated efforts between federal, state and local authorities and a recent MX$650 million federal investment in water infrastructure.

The Acapulco administration also held a coordination meeting with federal, state and municipal security agencies to finalize the Operativo de Seguridad Vacacional de Verano 2026. The operation, scheduled for July 16–August 30, will deploy additional patrols, information and assistance modules, enhanced aquatic rescue capabilities and tighter surveillance across tourist hotspots to ensure safety for the expected surge of visitors.
