Acapulco reaches 90% of pre‑hurricane hotel capacity as tourism recovers

Acapulco has brought 17,555 hotel rooms back into operation, representing roughly 90 % of the capacity that existed before Hurricane Otis. The recovery, involving 313 hotels, is driven by Governor Evelyn Salgado Pineda, the state tourism secretary Simón Quiñones Orozco, the federal government, local municipalities and private investors. The Golden Zone accounts for 8,396 rooms in 106 hotels, the Historic Bay 3,919 rooms in 105 hotels, the Diamond Zone 4,690 rooms in 64 hotels, and Pie de la Cuesta 550 rooms in 38 hotels.

In the Mexican Caribbean, Costa Mujeres posted the highest hotel occupancy for the week of 11‑17 July, with a 73.1 % occupancy rate, well above the state average of 61.7 %. Cancun followed at 69.2 %, Isla Mujeres at 63.1 % and Cozumel at 61.9 %. Lower‑occupancy destinations included Riviera Maya (55.6 %) and Costa Mayas (33.2 %). These figures, supplied by hotel associations and tourism authorities, indicate a strong start to the summer vacation season and suggest that Mexico’s tourism sector is rebounding robustly after the hurricane’s impact.
