Acapulco targets international sports tourism growth
Acapulco is strengthening its position as an international destination for sports tourism through several major upcoming events. The city is set to host the second edition of HYROX, a global fitness and endurance competition, from September 4 to 6 at the Expo Mundo Imperial. This event is expected to draw over 13,000 competitors and 20,000 visitors, generating an estimated 200 million pesos in economic impact and 22,000 room-nights.
Additionally, the government of Guerrero is pursuing a bid to bring the 64th Annual World Boxing Council (WBC) Convention to Acapulco in November 2026. Following the success of the 60th edition held in the city in 2022, officials are highlighting Acapulco’s existing infrastructure and experience with large-scale sporting events to attract international boxing figures, promoters, and champions.
