Acas research shows high demand for flexible working
A survey by workplace advisory body Acas reveals that 78 percent of employees consider flexible working an important factor when seeking employment, while only 20 percent stated it was not important.
The findings precede changes introduced by the Employment Rights Act 2025. Under these new regulations, employers must consult with employees before rejecting a flexible working request and may only refuse such requests if doing so is deemed reasonable.
Acas has launched a consultation to revise its Code of Practice to align with these legal changes. The updated Code aims to provide practical guidance based on four principles: making evidence-based decisions, adapting to accommodate requests where possible, working together to find solutions, and acting with transparency and consistency. Acas Chair Baroness Maggie Jones noted that successful implementation could benefit workers, employers, and the broader economy.
