Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia to open 2026/2027 season with Wagner’s Siegfried
The Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia will inaugurate its 2026/2027 symphonic season with Richard Wagner’s “Siegfried,” scheduled for performances between October 21 and October 27, 2026, at the Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone in Rome.
Directed by Daniel Harding, this production is part of a larger project dedicated to Wagner’s Tetralogy, “Der Ring des Nibelungen,” which is set to conclude in 2028. The new staging, directed by Vincent Huguet, seeks to create a dialogue between Germanic myth and the political history of Rome, linking the opera’s themes to the Roman Empire, the temporal power of the Church, and the 20th-century Italian colonial empire.
The production features an international cast, including American tenor Clay Hilley in the title role. The scenic design is by Pierre Yovanovitch, with costumes by Edoardo Russo in collaboration with Tirelli Trappetti Costumi, and lighting design by Christophe Forey. The production is part of a continuous cycle following “Die Walküre.”
