Access Bank cyberstalking: Two women arraigned in Lagos

Two women, Idorenyin Samuel Umobh and Fineness Monday Esu, have been arraigned before the Federal High Court in Lagos on charges related to the circulation of false information concerning Access Bank Plc.

According to the prosecution, the defendants allegedly conspired to transmit a false publication via Facebook and WhatsApp claiming that Access Bank would shut down its operations on September 23, 2026. The publication reportedly urged customers to close their accounts and withdraw their funds, an act intended to cause public alarm and a breakdown of law and order.

The defendants face a three-count charge, including conspiracy and violations of the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, as amended in 2024. Both individuals pleaded not guilty to the charges. The presiding judge, Akintayo Aluko, ordered that the defendants be remanded in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Service. The case has been adjourned until November 25, 2026, to allow the defense to file a formal bail application.
