Access Bank Refutes Fake Shutdown Notice, Confirms Full Operations

A fraudulent message impersonating Access Bank’s official channels has been spreading on social media and WhatsApp, claiming the bank is shutting down. Access Bank Plc issued a statement confirming that it remains financially strong, fully operational across all subsidiaries, and that its services continue without interruption. The bank said it is cooperating with regulators and law‑enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute those responsible. It warned the public that creating, publishing, or sharing false information that could cause panic or damage reputations is an offence under Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act and urged people to rely only on verified communications from the bank.

The bank’s clarification aims to reassure customers, partners, and stakeholders and to curb the spread of misinformation that could undermine confidence in the institution.
