Access Holdings CEO emphasizes institutional strength at Stanford Seed conference
Innocent C. Ike, Group Managing Director and CEO of Access Holdings Plc, addressed African leaders at the Stanford Seed G3 conference in Lagos, arguing that sustaining global growth requires robust institutions rather than mere scale.
During his keynote, “The Mindset of a Global CEO,” Ike stated that a leader should be judged by decision-making quality under complexity rather than the number of countries in which a firm operates. While acknowledging that scale provides advantages such as new markets and capital access, he cautioned that it does not guarantee superior economics.
Ike urged leaders to transition from founder-led growth to institution-led value, noting that a business becomes globally scalable when success is no longer dependent on a single individual. He outlined six essential disciplines for global CEOs: thinking beyond geography, objective capital allocation, building institutions over empires, competing against global standards, balancing risk with opportunity, and optimizing for sustainable value.
