Accessibility challenges and community support for visually impaired individuals in Turkey
In Diyarbakır, visually impaired resident Nesih Yüksel has raised concerns regarding the obstruction of tactile paving, commonly known as yellow guide paths. Yüksel reported that these essential paths, designed to help visually impaired individuals navigate safely using canes, are frequently blocked by parked vehicles, business tables, and various objects left on sidewalks.
In a separate instance of community support in Keşan, Edirne, 35-year-old Sezgin Çalışkan, who has 95 percent vision loss, fulfilled his dream of riding a motorcycle. Supported by the Fast Moto 22 Keşan Motorcycle Community and the Keşan District Police Department's Yunus Team, Çalışkan participated in a city tour in a convoy. He used the opportunity to encourage other individuals with disabilities to engage in social life and pursue their dreams rather than remaining isolated.
