Accessibility initiatives gain momentum in Poland through EU and international awards

Polish local governments have the opportunity to apply for the 2027 Access City Award, an initiative organized by the European Commission. The award recognizes cities that actively remove barriers and create inclusive environments for people with disabilities. Applications for the competition are open until September 4, 2026. Evaluation criteria include architectural accessibility, public transport, digital communication, and smart city solutions aimed at fostering social participation.

In related news regarding disability inclusion, the Powitalnik initiative, led by the Mudita Association, has advanced to the final stage of the Zero Project Awards 2027. Out of 615 global entries, Powitalnik is among the 159 initiatives selected for further consideration. The project, which is transitioning from a parental guide to a comprehensive support program, aims to promote the implementation of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities. Winners of the Zero Project Awards will be announced on December 3, 2026.
