Accessible tourism presents economic opportunities for Greece

Accessible tourism represents both a fundamental right and a significant economic opportunity for the Greek tourism sector. By removing barriers, businesses can expand their potential audience and foster alternative forms of tourism throughout the year.

Speaking at the Wise Greece “The Future of food, tourism and experiences” seminar, Chrysella Lagaria, co-founder and CEO of Black Light, emphasized that accessibility must be approached horizontally. She noted that it involves more than just physical infrastructure like ramps; it encompasses the entire visitor experience, including information searches, bookings, accommodation, sightseeing, and dining services.

Lagaria highlighted that accessibility improvements do not always require massive investments. Practical examples include adding subtitles to promotional videos, providing image descriptions on social media for blind users, training staff, and utilizing speech-to-text applications to assist deaf customers.
