Accident and fiber‑optic failure cause traffic chaos on Italy's A19 Palermo‑Catania highway

An accident occurred at kilometre 21 inside the Ventimiglia tunnel in the municipality of Trabia on the A19 Palermo‑Catania highway. Two cars travelling toward Palermo were involved; one vehicle overturned and blocked the lane, prompting an immediate response from emergency medical services, the highway police and ANAS crews, which began clearing the scene and restoring traffic flow.

Separately, a fiber‑optic cable fault near Bagheria (km 3.2‑3.3) led to long queues in the direction of Catania. A third‑party contractor carried out urgent repairs, with further work scheduled to start at 13:15, causing temporary slowdowns. Additional road‑work on the nearby Corleone bridge is planned for the following days, but it will not close the highway.
