Botoșani: Man shot during authorized hunting trip

A man was injured during an authorized hunting trip in the Cordăreni commune of Botoșani county on Thursday, October 22, 2026. The victim, identified in reports as being between 50 and 59 years old, sustained gunshot wounds to the abdomen or chest.

The incident occurred around 16:00 when a hunting guard accidentally discharged a weapon, striking a colleague. The guard immediately alerted authorities by calling 112. The victim was transported by medical teams to the Botoșani County Hospital, where he was stabilized and remains under surgical care.

Police from the Dorohoi Rural Police Station are investigating the accident. A criminal case for negligent bodily harm has been opened to determine the exact circumstances of the accidental discharge.
