Acciona expands infrastructure footprint in Peru and Chile

Spanish multinational Acciona is expanding its infrastructure footprint in South America through new energy and data center initiatives. In Peru, the company has inaugurated a technological Control Center in Lima to manage an electrical transmission network valued at approximately $800 million. This facility utilizes artificial intelligence to oversee real-time operations for a portfolio that includes eight projects, over 1,000 kilometers of high-voltage lines, and 28 substations, aimed at strengthening the National Interconnected Electric System (SEIN).

Simultaneously, Acciona is launching a dedicated data center division with a long-term goal of developing 2 GW of capacity globally. The company has requested a grid connection from Enel for its first major project in Chile, an 80 MW facility with an estimated investment exceeding €500 million. Acciona intends to act as both developer and owner, offering infrastructure for rent to hyperscalers. This expansion leverages existing regional assets, such as the El Romero solar plant in Chile, which currently supplies energy to a Google data center.
