Acclaro Medical employee fired after sending racist text to WNBA star Dearica Hamby

An employee of Rhode Island-based Acclaro Medical has been terminated following the sending of a racist text message to Los Angeles Sparks forward Dearica Hamby. The incident occurred after an August 22 game between the Sparks and the Connecticut Sun, during which Hamby was ejected from the contest.

Hamby shared a screenshot of the message on social media, which included racial slurs and dehumanizing language. After social media users identified the sender, Acclaro Medical conducted an investigation, initially suspending the individual before confirming his termination. The company issued a statement condemning racism, harassment, and hate speech, stating that the individual's views do not reflect the organization's values.

In addition to the loss of employment, the WNBA has issued a permanent ban against the individual, prohibiting him from attending all league games and events. The league stated it stands unequivocally with Hamby and is committed to holding those who engage in such behavior accountable.
