Accord Party faces legal challenge to disqualify 2027 candidates

Adebukola Ajaja, a member of the Accord Party, has filed a lawsuit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking the disqualification of all the party’s candidates for the 2027 general elections. The suit, filed on October 21, 2026, alleges breaches of the Electoral Act 2026 and the party’s internal constitution.

Ajaja contends that the party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, and National Organising Secretary, ThankGod Kenechukwu, usurped the authority of the National Secretary during the submission of candidate nomination documents to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The legal challenge argues that according to party regulations, only the National Chairman and the National Secretary are authorized to jointly sign and submit the required EC9 series forms.

The lawsuit names INEC, the Accord Party, Maxwell Mgbudem, and ThankGod Kenechukwu as respondents. Ajaja is seeking a court declaration to affirm the supremacy of the Accord Party constitution and to invalidate the documents submitted to INEC on June 30, July 19, and August 5, 2026.
