Accounting industry trends show strategic convergence across IPA 500 firms

The latest Inside Public Accounting (IPA) rankings reveal a convergence of strategic priorities across different tiers of the accounting profession. While larger firms typically maintain more diversified service mixes, smaller firms within the IPA 500 are increasingly developing advisory lines and adjusting pricing models to compete.

Key trends across the rankings include a shift away from traditional hourly billing, increased leverage, and a growing focus on offshore staffing. Although larger firms utilize offshore full-time employees at a higher rate (72% of IPA 200 firms compared to 36.5% of IPA 500 firms), the strategy is becoming more prevalent across all tiers.

In specific firm news, Kirsch CPA Group has moved up 26 positions to rank #390 on the IPA Top 400 list. The firm attributed its growth to its 2024 transition to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP), which allowed it to maintain independence amid industry consolidation driven by private equity acquisitions.
