Accra court sentences driver to 15 years for attempted robbery

An Accra Circuit Court has sentenced 32-year-old Emmanuel Akpatsa to 15 years in prison for unlawful entry and attempted robbery. Akpatsa, a former driver for Callistus Mahama, targeted his former employer’s residence in Okpoi Gonno, off Spintex Road.

According to the prosecution, Akpatsa traveled from Kpando to Accra and obtained a kitchen knife before entering the property at approximately 01:00 on May 24, 2025. To avoid CCTV detection, he reportedly entered an abandoned house adjacent to the residence before scaling a wall to gain access to the main home.

Once inside, Akpatsa armed himself with the knife and demanded a Sonlink motorbike from Gabriel Djanfosu, a houseboy and driver working at the residence. Djanfosu managed to alert others by pretending to leave the house to urinate before retrieving a cutlass to raise the alarm. Akpatsa was subsequently overpowered by a security guard and a police officer and handed over to the Manet Police Station.
