Accra, Ghana floods claim three lives

Torrential rains triggered severe flooding in Accra, the capital of Ghana, killing at least three people. Rescue teams deployed boats to evacuate 15 children and an infant from the Chanja district, while a 60‑year‑old man was found dead in the Alajo area. Two other victims died from electrocution after coming into contact with live wires.

Police, the army and first‑aid services were mobilised for the response, and the interior ministry urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Officials warned that heavy rain will continue across the southeast and move westward, raising the risk of further flooding. "My house flooded," said retired journalist Philip Mensa, 67, and resident Passiens Naa Ajelei Ajei described repeatedly mopping water from her home.
