Accra infrastructure projects announced ahead of Ghana's 70th anniversary

Ghana is undertaking several major infrastructure projects in Accra ahead of the nation's 70th independence anniversary in March 2027. Roads and Highways Minister Kwame Governs Agbodza announced a nationwide initiative to improve the capital's principal routes, focusing on resealing existing roads to enhance safety and connectivity.

Key road projects include the resumption of work on the long-stalled Kasoa and Ofankor road corridors, as well as the coastal road stretch running from Independence Square through Osu to Tema. The focus is on repairing wear and tear through asphalt resealing rather than entirely new construction.

In a separate development, President John Dramani Mahama is scheduled to break ground on the Accra Convention Centre at the Trade Fair Centre. This 81,422-square-metre facility, funded by the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), will include a 3,000-seater main conference hall, a Presidential Hall, and four large auditoriums to bolster Ghana's capacity for international events and tourism.
