Accra placement centre overwhelmed by SHS admission disputes

Hundreds of parents and students have gathered at the GNAT Hall in Accra to resolve issues regarding the 2026 Senior High School (SHS) placement exercise. The National Placement Resolution Centre has become overwhelmed, with some estimates suggesting up to 2,000 people gathered in a single day. Parents have expressed frustration over the lack of a queue system and the fact that the Greater Accra Region is being served by only one resolution centre ahead of the September 18 intake.

A primary source of contention involves students with high academic aggregates failing to secure spots in their preferred schools, while students with lower grades are admitted. Officials from the Computerised School Selection and Placement System (CSSPS) have clarified that placement is not determined by aggregate scores alone. Instead, the system considers the specific programme chosen, the number of available vacancies in a school, and the volume of competing students for those specific spots.
