Accra Sports Stadium undergoes maintenance for international matches

The National Sports Authority (NSA) is conducting ongoing maintenance and renovation work at the Accra Sports Stadium to prepare for upcoming international football fixtures. NSA Director General Yaw Ampofo Ankrah stated that preserving the facility's standards is a priority, noting that it is currently Ghana’s only venue approved to host FIFA Category A matches.

The stadium has received approval from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to host several international assignments. It is scheduled to serve as the home ground for Niger and Somalia in their upcoming matches. Additionally, Ghana’s national team, the Black Stars, will return to the venue for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign, including a match against Gambia.

While focusing on the Accra Sports Stadium, Ankrah acknowledged that sporting facilities across various regions in Ghana require further investment and improvements to meet necessary standards.
