Ace Combat 8 developers apologize for Steam pre-order bonus controversy

Ace Combat 8 Project Aces Bandai Namco Steam DLC controversy video game pre-order bonus

Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve has launched to generally positive reviews, including a 74 percent positive rating on Steam and an 88 Metacritic score. However, the release is facing significant backlash regarding its pre-order bonus, Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War.

Players on PC have expressed frustration because the bonus is not a standalone application on Steam, unlike on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Instead, it functions as a DLC that requires the installation of the main Ace Combat 8 game, which takes up approximately 140 GB. Furthermore, the Steam version lacks independent achievements and separate cloud save data.

Developer Project Aces and publisher Bandai Namco have issued apologies, stating that the distribution method was due to licensing restrictions and platform-specific limitations on Steam. The studio is currently investigating potential solutions to address the community's concerns.
