Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve set for October 2026 release

Bandai Namco has released new details and an extensive 16-minute opening cinematic for Ace Combat 8: Wings of Theve, scheduled for release on October 2, 2026. Developed by Project Aces, the game will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.

Set in the fictional world of Strangereal in July 2029, the narrative follows a pilot who assumes the mantle of the legendary ace, Wings of Theve, following the death of Jan “Rex” Cope. The story centers on the Federation of Central Usea (FCU) as it faces a massive invasion by the Republic of Sotoa, utilizing advanced weaponry such as the Tonitrus Spears orbital system.

Gameplay features include an emphasis on cinematic storytelling, real-time camera interactions during cutscenes, and a mix of arcade-style flight combat with deep narrative elements. The game also introduces an online mode with various cooperative and competitive activities, such as Co-op Attacks and Emergency Sorties. Reviewers have noted the game's ability to balance high-octane aerial action with complex themes regarding propaganda, nationalism, and the human cost of war.
