Aceh energy sector focuses on new drilling and downstream industrial growth
Pertamina EP Rantau Field has commenced drilling for five new wells in Aceh Tamiang to stabilize oil and gas production following recent flooding. Field Manager Tomi Wahyu Alimsyah stated that production has returned to approximately 1,700 barrels per day through a gradual recovery process. The new drilling operations, including wells RNT DZ-51 and RNT DZ-52 in Tanjung Seumantoh, aim to discover new reserves and support national energy security.
In a separate development regarding regional energy strategy, PT Pembangunan Aceh (PEMA) is advocating for the acceleration of downstream oil and gas industries in Aceh. During the 2026 Economic Development Forum, PEMA President Director Faisal Ilyas emphasized that the region should move beyond exporting raw commodities. He argued that developing integrated processing industries and infrastructure is essential to creating local economic value and ensuring long-term energy independence for the province.
