Aceh forest fire teams extinguish 10.5 ha and warn of monkey displacement

Fire‑control units in Aceh South reported that the Manggala Agni team, assisted by the Sumatra Forest Fire Control Agency, Balai Konservasi Sumber Daya Alam and plantation workers, extinguished 10.5 hectares of peatland fire in Seunebok Pusaka after the blaze had spread to 28 hectares. The effort continued for eight days under clear weather with winds up to nine km/h, and officials said the fire‑affected area includes mixed vegetation such as saplings, shrubs, ferns and oil palm.

In Aceh West, police and BPBD personnel were also battling a separate forest‑fire incident near the village of Cot Seumeureng. Authorities warned that uncontrolled burning during the dry season could force long‑tailed macaques to move into nearby settlements, potentially sparking human‑wildlife conflict. Police chief AKP Wasdiyanto stressed that “the fire can quickly grow because of wind, endangering people and the ecosystem,” and urged residents to avoid open‑burning and report any hotspots immediately.
