Aceh Timur community oil wells produce 2,800 BOPD

Community-owned oil wells in Aceh Timur, Indonesia, are reportedly producing approximately 2,800 barrels of oil per day (BOPD). These wells are unique because the oil flows naturally without the need for pumps.

The high volume of production has created logistical challenges, as local authorities and residents are struggling to contain and store the output. Djoko Siswanto, head of the Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas), noted that the Governor of Aceh has issued an official letter regarding the situation.

SKK Migas emphasized the need for rapid intervention to ensure public safety and to manage the production in a coordinated manner. While the wells represent significant potential for national oil production, officials stressed that management must be conducted safely and in accordance with existing regulations.
