Aceh Timur verifies 525 fishermen for disaster recovery aid

The Aceh Timur Regency Government is re-verifying data for 525 fishermen affected by hydrometeorological disasters to ensure aid reaches the correct recipients. While initial counts suggested approximately 600 people were impacted, the updated figure stands at 525 following a verification process conducted by the Fisheries Department and the Panglima Laot customary institution.

Recovery efforts focus on restoring livelihoods, including repairing boats, fishing gear, and aquaculture facilities. To support the sector, the Ministry of Marine Affairs and Fisheries has provided 4.2 million vaname shrimp larvae for 120 hectares of ponds.

However, challenges remain regarding the coordination of rehabilitation and reconstruction. Observers have noted that current disaster management lacks the centralized coordination seen during the post-tsunami recovery era, as responsibilities are currently distributed across various ministries and agencies rather than a single unified body.
