Acer joins Kiosk and AOPEN to tackle overtourism with digital signage
A study by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid (June 2026) highlighted how digital technologies can manage tourist crowding. The European Commission’s Transition Pathway for Tourism notes that around 80 % of tourism activity concentrates in just 20 % of destinations, underscoring the need for real‑time monitoring and visitor redirection.
In response, Acer for Business has formed a strategic partnership with Kiosk and AOPEN. The collaboration creates an integrated digital‑signage ecosystem that combines Acer’s large‑format displays and mini PCs, Kiosk’s interactive totems and kiosks, and AOPEN’s professional media players. Integrated sensors, analytics and smart‑city platforms allow public authorities and venue operators to display live congestion levels in airports, train stations, museums, historic centres and other public spaces, and to suggest alternative itineraries that spread visitor flows more evenly.
Cristina Pez, Director Commercial & Marketing and Go‑to‑Market at Acer, said the solution “can guide visitor behaviour through up‑to‑date information, improving the overall experience and reducing pressure on over‑visited sites.” The technology is already deployed in several European locations as part of broader smart‑tourism and smart‑city initiatives.
