Achaia Clauss winery suffers damage from devastating fire

The historic Achaia Clauss winery in Patras suffered significant damage following a devastating fire on the morning of Saturday, September 5. The blaze completely destroyed the stone Daniilidis cellar building and damaged the adjacent 19th-century clock tower.

Despite the destruction, the fire was contained by winery staff and fire services, preventing it from spreading to other buildings or nearby forested areas. Crucially, the winery's historical archive, which holds significant value for the history of the company, the city of Patras, and Greek winemaking, was successfully protected.

Leadership from the Achaia Chamber of Commerce visited the site to assess the extent of the damage and offer support. Achaia Clauss representatives, including Board Chairman Nikos Karapanos and Historical Archive President Periklis Baltas, described the scale of the destruction as shocking but noted the importance of the preserved heritage.
