Achaia Coordinating Committee criticizes Aigio Hospital conditions

The Achaia Coordinating Committee of the Greek Left (ELAS) has issued a statement accusing the New Democracy government of the degradation of healthcare services in Aigio and the wider Achaia region. The committee claims that the hospital is suffering from extreme understaffing, leaving approximately 200 patients waiting long periods for surgery.

According to the statement, existing medical and nursing staff are working beyond their limits of endurance. The committee has called for urgent measures, including the filling of all vacant organic positions through incentives, the recruitment of specialized full-time doctors, and the establishment of an Autonomous Emergency Department (TEP).

Furthermore, the committee demands an end to the practice of forced on-call duties, a move supported by a unanimous resolution from the Aigio Municipal Council. The statement also criticizes Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis for a perceived lack of action and availability to address the regional crisis.
