Achaia hosts local history book writing workshops

The Institute of Local History is organizing its fifth annual book writing workshop, titled ‘A Book for My Place,’ to be held in Leontio, Achaia, on October 10-11, 2026. The program invites participants from across Greece to explore the theme ‘Stories from the Mountains.’

The workshops aim to highlight the lives of mountain communities from antiquity to the present day through material and intangible remains. Specific sessions will cover mountain settlement, memory and myth, communication and transport, economy and self-sufficiency, and community disaster archives. These sessions will be led by archaeologists, historians, and photographers at selected locations in Panachaiko and Leontio.

Participants will also engage in historical and photographic research presentations and meet with local groups such as Sketching Patras and the Phaethon running club. Applications are being accepted until September 11, and participants will be hosted in local homes in Leontio.
