Achaia Police Union Demands Modern Equipment and Legal Protocol after July Chase

In the early hours of 26 July 2026, police units from the Rapid Response Department, the 1st Police Department, the Highway Patrol and the Traffic Department in Patras, Achaia, pursued a suspect who had earlier stolen a vehicle near the Megara service station. The officers' actions prevented serious injuries to both the police and nearby civilians.

The Achaia Police Union, headed by President Georgios Angelopoulos, issued a statement congratulating the officers and reiterating its long‑standing request for a legally sound, clear operational protocol. The union called for the immediate introduction of modern tools such as Tasers and vehicle‑immobilising spike strips, together with specialised training, to protect police personnel and ensure legal coverage during split‑second decisions.
