Achaia Police Union warns of 165-officer shortage

The Association of Police Employees of Achaia has expressed partial satisfaction following the reinforcement of the Achaia Police Directorate with 11 additional officers from September's supplementary transfers. The union noted that this development places Achaia among the associations that received some of the largest reinforcements nationwide, contributing to a total of 60 colleagues added to the force over the last year.

Despite this increase, the union warns of a critical ongoing shortage. They report a total deficit of at least 165 officers, a figure that does not account for upcoming retirements. The shortage is attributed to several factors: 67 vacancies in the organic strength, four mandatory age-related retirements, 46 personnel permanently seconded to political figures or other services, 30 officers missing for the staffing of the Support Companies Department, and at least 18 officers required for duties on the Olympia Odos motorway.
