Achaia school class mergers canceled following local protests

Planned mergers of 22 class sections across 20 schools in the Achaia region of Greece have been canceled, restoring normalcy for the start of the new school year on September 2. The decision to merge classes had been in effect on paper for two weeks during August, causing significant unrest among the local educational community.

The attempted mergers led to instability regarding teacher assignments and placements, creating anxiety and uncertainty for educators, parents, and students. While the cancellation is viewed as a victory for local mobilization by parents and teachers, concerns remain regarding pending regulations for specialized teaching hours and schedule adjustments in several schools.
