Achaia transport officials discuss funding and railway reopening

Christina Alexopoulou, a New Democracy MP for Achaia, met with Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Giorgos Kotsiras to discuss transportation issues in the Achaia region. The discussions focused on payments, funding, and the smooth operation of transport providers, including the Urban and Intercity KTEL services.

Key topics included ensuring continuous coverage for students and persons with disabilities, as well as upgrading services to support sustainable urban mobility. A specific focus was placed on the planning for the reopening of the Diakopto-Kalavryta rack railway, with passenger and worker safety cited as a priority.

While the meeting was described as positive, local concerns remain regarding the effectiveness of current policies. Critics have called for a unified public transport network—integrating suburban, urban, and tram services with a single affordable ticket—to better serve the expanded Municipality of Patras and reduce private vehicle usage.
